SWIMMING POOL ACCESS
May 02, 2005

Introduction:
Here's the last question in this series about swimming pool safety. This time let's take a look at the the access requirements from home to pool...

Question:
True or False? Direct access points from a home (doors and windows) to a swimming pool area are required to be alarmed.
Answer:
TRUE - All direct access points from a home to the swimming pool must be alarmed. If there is a fence around the pool (between the house and pool), it must be at least 4 feet tall and any gates must open outward and be equipped with self closing hinges and latches at least 54" above the ground. Summer is upon us, and small children (especially visiting family and guests, who may be unfamiliar with pool dangers) will have the potential to gain unsupervised swimming pools access, so take a minute to make sure your property or that of your clients adequately protects the little ones. Please do your share to ensure a safe and enjoyable Summer season.
