ROOF GUTTERS
August 30, 2005

Introduction:
Moving away from plumbing to something few people think about... roof gutters. We discussed a few weeks ago that there are building codes and standards for just about every aspect of construction. So what about roof gutters...

Question:
True or False? There is no requirement for roof gutters in the building codes.
Answer:
False - The Florida Building Code DOES require roof gutters in limited instances. Roof gutters are required when the roof eaves project less than 6 inches from the side of the building. Why is this required? For protection against decay and termites. ALL air conditioning condensate drains, roof gutters, and irrigation risers or spray heads MUST be at least 12 inches from the building sidewall - to prevent against rot and potential termite activity.
