CERTIFIED HOME INSPECTORS
November 07, 2007

Introduction:
The last Inspection Question discussed the use of the term "LICENSED". How about the middle term in the phrase "Licensed, Certified and Insured". Did you ever wonder what qualifications are necessary to to become a CERTIFIED Home Inspector? And how often is the Certification renewed?

Question:
True or False? There is one central organization that certifies all home inspectors.
Answer:
FALSE - Until Florida's law, governing home inspection takes effect in 2010 - there is no central entity 'certifying' home inspectors. If a home inspector represents themselves as being 'Certified', the first question you should ask is 'By whom?' The second question you should ask is 'How many inspections have you performed?' Everyone has to start somewhere, and new inspectors can be good; but the question you have to ask yourself is "Do I want my transaction to be a guinea pig?"
