HOUSE NUMBERS
March 20, 2006

Introduction:
Last week I received some interesting comments about "builder integrity" - one person suggested the phrase was an oxymoron!!! But honestly, not all builders are bad, it is just unfortunate that I have to use the bad ones as examples to assist in educating the public. While we're talking about construction, I thought I'd ask this question....

Question:
True or False? To obtain a Certificate of Occupancy for new construction, the residence must have the house street numbers permanently attached on the structure.
Answer:
TRUE- Here's one of those funny things - the County REQUIRES that house numbers be permanently attached to a structure prior to issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy - BUT the same County Inspector doesn't check to make sure the water heater is working. I guess the theory is, that you cannot live in a residence without house numbers - but you can live in one without hot water??!!
